To keep you safe and healthy while you are traveling or on assignment outside your home country, USC partners with International SOS, the world’s leading medical and travel security services company through a membership program.

During an incident

  1. Call the local equivalent of “911,” if appropriate. Review the U.S. State Department’s global “911” list.
  2. Contact International SOS by phone at +1 215 942 8226, or start a chat or phone call through the Assistance App.
  3. Students on faculty-led programs should always contact their faculty or staff member to alert them of the situation.

If you’re unsure whether local emergency services can be trusted or can provide adequate care, your first point of contact should be International SOS. I-SOS case managers will advise you on your situation and connect you with appropriate resources.

International SOS may alert USC to your call to confirm that you’re eligible under the University’s International SOS membership and enables us to provide further assistance if needed.

For programs run by partner institutions, or USC-organized programs that do not include on-site participation by USC employees (i.e. internships), it is expected that a campus-based Response Team will be convened to coordinate the University’s response to an emergency abroad. Even in instances when USC staff/faculty are located on-site, the severity of a crisis involving one or more USC programs abroad may necessitate the formation of a campus-based Response Team.

The Campus-Based Response to Overseas Crises can be found here.
