USC’s academic units and departments offer a range of opportunities and featured programs that provide unique experiences. Some programs are open to all students, while others are limited to those within a particular school or major. Students may browse the Student Travel Abroad portal for programs using the link below. Please connect with each department’s student travel abroad office with questions and to learn more.

  • USC Annenberg International Programs offer dynamic study-abroad programs specifically designed to expand upon and enhance the school’s communication, public relations and journalism curriculum. Program options range from semester-long to summer experiential programs and short-term spring break career immersions that are open to eligible undergraduate students and graduate students, with select programs open to all USC majors.

  • The USC School of Architecture offers multiple study-abroad opportunities created to complement specific architecture courses. Offerings change periodically in order to better meet the needs of the students and align with the mission of the school’s global initiatives

  • The USC Chan Division of Occupational Science and Occupational Therapy offers extensive and unique opportunities for students to study abroad during their graduate education. Overseas opportunities include fieldwork (clinical training), doctoral residency and short-term externship experiences with a broad array of global partners. Since 2013, USC Chan students have completed travel-abroad experiences in more than 35 countries on six continents.

  • Faculty-Led Programs at the USC Dornsife College of Letters, Arts and Sciences are open to undergraduates from all schools and include a wide array of options such as Problems Without Passports, core curriculum and basic language courses that reflect various disciplines and studies, include domestic and international travel, and range in duration from one week to a full semester. This dynamic variety of choices includes Julymester, Fall Break, Spring Semester, Spring Semester Tail, Spring Break, Maymester and Departmental Summer.

  • USC Dornsife programs are open to undergraduates from all schools. They offer exciting and diverse opportunities to spend a semester or year studying abroad with more than 60 programs in over 25 countries, as well as a summer program at Cambridge University in England. Some programs include opportunities for research, field work, internships or community service projects. All students are encouraged to integrate study abroad into their USC experience.

  • The externship program affords USC Gould School of Law JD students opportunities to earn academic credit working outside the U.S. for a semester with organizations such as the European Court of Justice in Luxembourg or courts in The Hague. Application processes can be lengthy, so interested students should contact the Director of Externships as early as possible at externassistance@law.usc.edu.

  • The Department of Preventive Medicine in the Keck School of Medicine of USC offers unique international study experiences in various countries around the world. These opportunities are led by USC faculty experts in global health and may include cultural immersion, public health research, experiential learning and practicum/internships. The programs are open to all USC graduate students.

  • The Keck School of Medicine supports international research and clinical experiences for medical students. Pre-clinical students have the opportunity to conduct international research as a Summer Research Fellow. Students in their post-clerkship phase can receive elective credit for two- to four-week clinical international rotations or complete a year of international research as a Dean’s Research Scholar.

  • Global Medicine students have the opportunity to travel three times per year. The program’s 10- to 14-day study-away courses provide students with the opportunity to observe health care scenarios and meet with health care leaders in clinical, business and nongovernmental organization settings. With opportunities in more than 12 countries on five continents, recent study-away courses have been held in Japan, Panama, Nepal, Denmark, India, Malaysia and South Africa.

  • Every summer, students from the USC Leonard Davis School of Gerontology and across the university travel across the world to explore aging. Course topics range from how nutrition and food culture affect longevity to how psychology changes with aging and how death customs and ceremonies vary throughout ancient and modern societies. Courses are available to outside individuals (requires enrolling as a limited-status student).

  • Through its extensive network of partners, the USC Alfred E. Mann School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences Office of Global Initiatives offers practice-oriented international experiences designed to foster global learning for future health care professionals. Global Pharmacy Experiences are short-term (typically two-week) programs for individuals or groups of students to explore the practice of pharmacy in various international settings. International Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experiences are intensive six-week rotations for fourth-year PharmD students hosted by institutional partners in multiple countries. Undergraduates can gain valuable insights into pharmacy practices worldwide through faculty-led programs. Mann School students also pursue international experiences through the International Pharmaceutical Students Federation.

  • The USC Marshall School of Business features global immersion courses for undergraduate and graduate business students. The experiential nature of these programs places students inside a true global lab, offering hands-on projects and visits to dynamic global companies that leverage the Trojan Family network. No matter which international opportunity they choose, students build both competence and confidence while developing a global vision.

  • Marshall Undergraduate International Programs offer a full portfolio of in-country immersive offerings with a focus on global business studies and training. Through full-semester, study-abroad opportunities, business and accounting students may satisfy major requirements. Meanwhile, international summer internships and short-term study programs are open to all majors.

  • The Price International Lab, a four-unit graduate course, provides the essential clinical link between academic education and professional practice outside the U.S. Students collaborate in multidisciplinary teams to address a particular project identified by the client in the host country. Teams analyze information pertinent to the project and its context, then produce recommendations for accomplishing project objectives. Students build interdisciplinary experience while experiencing different cultures.

  • The USC Price School of Public Policy real estate programs include international study tour classes. Comparative International Development Workshop (RED 585: 2 units) includes a 10-day professional-level overseas visit. Students meet notable developers, government officials and prominent business leaders who are actively involved in the international real estate community. Mixed Use Development Process (RED 469: 4 units) includes a spring break field project focusing on the design, financial, legal and management challenges of mixed-use real estate developments.

  • Recognizing the importance of training future professionals for success in a globalized context, USC Price has partnered with institutions across the world to establish programs for students to enrich their learning experiences. These semester-long exchanges enable USC Price students to study at a partnering school, while students from those peer schools study at USC.

  • The USC Roski School of Art and Design study-abroad programs offer art and design students the opportunity to enrich their studio practice with a global perspective. These include partnerships with a range of schools from Europe to Australia through the Dornsife Office of Overseas Studies and a direct partnership with the University of the Arts London. The school also offers short-term faculty-led international study tours such as Maymester.

  • USC Thornton offers a range of study abroad opportunities allowing students to learn, engage and perform around the globe. Students can spend a semester on exchange at a partner conservatory, enroll in one of our collaborative Maymester short courses and participate in experiential trips to perform or collaborate at partner institutions. Study abroad can expose students to new musical styles, strengthen cross-cultural communication skills and foster the creation of international professional networks.

  • USC Viterbi School of Engineering offers an array of overseas experiences, from Maymester and Fall Lead programs to semester-long exchange programs and a summer research program. USC Viterbi study abroad programs help students gain a global engineering perspective while working toward their academic and career goals.

  • This scholarship fund supports undergraduate student travel to African countries for study, research, service-based learning and internships. Students who have identified a project or program are invited to apply with this funding in mind. Winners may receive full or partial support to help cover airfare costs associated with their proposed project or program.
